Eleana Drakatos of Columbus elected OSBA president

Published: May 17, 2018

COLUMBUS––Eleana Drakatos, Esq. was elected by her peers to serve as the next President of the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA). As President-elect, she will serve as an officer of the OSBA beginning on July 1 of this year and will take over as President in July of 2019.

Drakatos, a plaintiffs’ attorney and the principal in a small family firm, earned her juris doctorate from Capital University, where she met her husband and law partner Dennis Yacobozzi II. Together they have built a successful, client-centered business. As a result, Drakatos brings an invaluable perspective on the challenges facing attorneys and legal consumers as well as a commitment to making sure the justice system serves all, as intended.

“I am honored to have earned the support of my peers and to be given such a prominent platform from which to advance justice and the legal profession through the work of the OSBA,” Drakatos said. “The OSBA is the voice of Ohio lawyers and I pledge to use it to empower them and the clients they serve.”

Drakatos was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but spent her entire childhood in Greece, coming to Ohio in 1996 to earn her undergraduate degree in psychology and neuroscience at Ohio Wesleyan University. Her science background has served her well as she works closely with injured victims. In practice for nearly 15 years, Drakatos is licensed in Ohio state and federal courts, the District of Columbia and the United States Supreme Court.

Drakatos’ commitment to the law goes well beyond her own practice. She has served on the OSBA Board of Governors since 2014 as an at-large representative, and currently chairs the Budget & Headquarters Committee as well as the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Content Advisory Committee.

An enthusiastic mentor to young women entering the legal profession, she serves on the OSBA Women in the Profession Section Council. In addition, she is a past president of the Women Lawyers of Franklin County and has served on the Board of the Ohio Association for Justice and the Central Ohio Association for Justice.

Drakatos also serves as adjunct faculty at Columbus State Community College, teaching in the Department of Criminal Justice, and has been a contributor for the OJI (Ohio Jury Instructions Committee).

Widely respected by her peers, she is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell’s Peer Review Rating, has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer since 2015, and a Rising Star from 2011-2014. She was recently recognized by Ohio Super Lawyers as one of the Top 25 Women Attorneys in the Columbus area. Always committed to giving back, Drakatos is also proud to be a Life Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation.

When not attending to clients or participating in her countless Bar activities, Eleana and Dennis love to spend time with their daughter.
